The cards that represent Jordin are two Major Arcana cards and one from the suit of Pentacles. Major Arcana cards carry more weight in a spread, so I am immediately drawn to this side of the layout. When Major Arcana cards are the dominant suit, there is a sense of fate and destiny in the situation. The first card, the Tower, is the element of surprise, the unexpected. I find it interesting this card is on the side that represents Jordin. I see this as the shocking ouster of front runner Melinda Doolittle, which shook things up, and which could be the thing that paves the way for Jordin to win. The second, the Hermit, usually speaks of maturity and experience. I see this as a card that is talking about Jordin's growth as a performer, which has been commented on during the show's progression this season. Comments have been made that she carries herself with more maturity that belies her seventeen years of age. The last, the Ace of Pentacles, signals the beginning stages of a new career or commercial venture. Pentacles are associated with finances, and this one can suggest the possibility of a large cash windfall. The cards look very promising for Jordin. Now, let's look at the cards for Blake. The first, the Hierophant, is a Major Arcana card. As with the Tower and the Hermit on Jordin's side, this carries extra weight. For Blake, I see this card as gaining approval and a loyal fan following. I also see this as conservatism and tradition. I think, in Blake's case, this would suggest that the "Idol" machine would want him to conform to a certain image. He is trying to break the mold (remember the dying of the hair to black with the blond stripe?), and that might work against him. The next two are from the suit of Wands. Wands are about work, enterprise, creativity, as well as our self and public image. Blake is the one who has been known for taking creative risks when covering the music he's chosen. Again, this is going against the norm, breaking tradition, and sometimes it can work for you, and at times work against you. The first of these two cards is the 9 of Wands. This card is a conflict card. First, going with the theme of self and/or public image, this card is the "don't mess with me" card. Again, I see there would be a conflict as to the image Blake wants of himself and that of the people behind "Idol." This card is the opposite of the Tower, which was on Jordin's side. This card is about being prepared for what is to come. This card says,"It's no surprise, I saw it coming." The last card, the 2 of Wands is a planning card. It says one must begin making plans for the future. I like the picture on this card, from this deck. A man is walking on a path. Before him, it splits into two divergent paths, going in two different directions. I see this as Blake needing to make a choice as to how he wants to proceed with his career; does he want to do it the "Idol" way, or his own? Overall, I see the cards as suggesting that Jordin will be the next American Idol. Incidentally, my attention was drawn to the final cards in each column, to the numbers on the card. Jordin's is an Ace, which is the number one. Blake's is number two. Could this be Tarot's way of saying Jordin will be coming in first place and Blake second place? Also, I can't help that Blake knows this as well, with the 9 and 2 of Wands in his row. He somehow knows how things will turn out, and he may already be making career choices with this outcome in mind. |
