James' Interpretation:
Mike's dream contains spiritual imagery (the cross and the people
praying), so the dream can pertain to Mike's spirituality. In this
context, Mike is being shown something that may pertain to a
worldly or global perspective, as the world/globe would suggest.
Also, the large movie screen, as a symbol, is asking Mike to see the
"big picture." Looking up in the dream is also suggesting a spiritual
point of view.
The man in the dream is trying to tell him something. Mike says
that he can't make out what he is saying. He also says he can't hear
the messages coming from the movie screen. This combination can
suggest that Mike is not able to comprehend/understand what Spirit
wants him to perceive.
Falling to the knees and praying may be Spirit's way of asking
Mike to pray for the world.
Another way to look at this dream is that it may be suggesting that
Mike's world (the globe) may be spinning out of control in some
way. When the globe stops at Africa, this can be saying Mike needs
to stop and get to the "root" of the matter. Africa is said to be the
place where man originated, which is where this interpretation
comes in. Also, Mike is an African-American man, which can
further this meaning. The flash of light represents sudden
awareness, a moment of clarity that could result if Mike were to do
this. The cross, in this sense, may be an indication of a sacrifice that
Mike may have to make as a result of this awareness (the cross
representing the sacrifice Christ made for the world, in the Christian
religion ).
An issue Mike may be going through is trying to understand his
role in the "world," what is the bigger picture of his life (the movie
screen). This is further indicated by the dream taking place at night,
which can represent a lack of awareness. Some events that may be
taking place in his life are making him question this. Even with this
interpretation, the dream is asking him to pray about this matter.
One thing Mike is having trouble with is "listening" to the voice of
Spirit. That is the flip side of prayer; one can talk to Spirit in prayer,
but one must also be able to hear Spirit as well. Mike may be asked
to slow down the busy-ness of his life, so he can hear what Spirit has
to say.
Going to the restaurant, in this sense, is positive, as it can mean that
he is taking the steps (walking) to get some "food for thought (the
restaurant)."
